47246 2002-05-05 09:23:00 I am about to update my system with a new motherboard, Athlon XP processor and video card. Will my current install of WinXP pro swalow thw hardware without needing to be reinstalled? How do I make it happen?

47247 2002-05-05 10:03:00 I know of someone that had heaps of trouble with XP after changinng motherboards. He had heaps of crashes. I would recommend doing a clean install.

47248 2002-05-05 22:15:00 Don't bother doing a clean install without at least trying your old installation on the new motherboard first.

I changed MB's 2 weeks ago and my old WinXP Pro install is running perfectly.

One problem you may strike is that initially you cant boot XP. To get around this you need to boot from the XP CD then choose to 'repair' an installation....then just reinstall over the top of your old stuff (NOT a new install...let me make that very clear!)...this fixes the problem and you don't have all the hassle of getting your OS and apps back to how they were....because theyre all still there just as they were before.

Piece of cake really.
