| 47327 | 2002-05-06 01:09:00 | Whenever I open an old saved document to reprint or view, the document date changes to todays current date. The documents were created in a template that was set up but the setup for the date field hasnt got autoupdate ticked or anything. I need to stop this happening - the documents need to keep their original date. This is part of Office 97 Many thanks | Guest (0) | ||

Assuming that you have a date field in your document template or letter, select the date field and then press Ctrl/F11 - this locks the field. To unlock, press Ctrl/shift/F11. When drafting a document,I find it useful to leave the field unlocked so that it updates when opened anew, and then lock it when I've finished or ready to send it. Failing all else, with the document open in Word, go to File/properties and it will show the date created and last modified. Hope all this helps. Bill |

I checked out Brent P's suggestion, and on my computer the option he mentions is not ticked, however the computer still updates the date if I use 'Insert Date'. |
