| 47321 | 2002-05-06 00:55:00 | Hi, I have a P2 233 with 230Mb of ram and now would like a little more processer speed with out investing too much. A CDRW I have recommends 300Mhz and I think 300 or 350 would be enough untill I need a new system in few years time. This upgrade would also allow my 12yr old boy to try the games he thinks he needs. Any suggestions? | Guest (0) | ||

However this will be dependant on your motherboard and what MHZ rating it can handle. However please note you proberly won't get it up to 300mhz unless you had some serious cooling (to keep your CPU cool) and if it's an older board the jumper settings may not go that high. For some info on overclocking just check out www.overclockers.com.au you should find a bit on that to get you started. Best of luck, Daniel |

One viable option may be to use a slocket with a socket 370 cpu......this is dependent on your motherboard though.......if you post back the details of your motherboard or have a look at the manufacturers website it will tell you the maximum CPU multiplier and FSB that your board supports (or the manual if you have it). Games really are dependant on the Videocard that you have, what sort of games does your son want to play?? |

The games my boy plays are usually trial versions, and he has a play station as well, so I am not so concerned about a graphics card. My main reason is because the CDRW I have says to have 300Mhz as the recommended CPU.... Should I bother? Are you trying to upgrade the chip only, without the motherboard? If so, this really is not a good idea - I doubt that you will notice any difference in speed. Check the prices for new motherboards and chips - I do not have the info in front of me but from memory chips and motherboards in the range of 600 to 800 Mhz are not so expensive. | Guest (0) | ||
