| 47304 | 2002-05-05 23:56:00 | Choosing the restart option from the shutdown options just leaves my computer hanging until I push the reboot button. Awhile ago I had the problem that I couldnt restart the computer in ms-dos mode but worked around this by disabling SB audio HQ in the start up menu. Have no problems with shutting down. Its an annoying problem to have when installing anything, as are always asked if u want to restart computer and need to click no then shutdown normally and then start up again. Running pIII 1.0GHz,98se,asus CUSL2-C mb,sb live,Leadtek geforce2 Ti,ihug sat card, ethernet network, intel 56k modem. Have tried searching thru ms knowledge base cheers for any ideas Mark |

Go to the device manager Tab and look in the list for an entry for Creative blah blah - open it and find the SB Dos emulation device and 'Disable in this Profile'. Reboot and you will probably find the problem gone. For some reason I cannot fathom the SB Dos emulation will not co-operate properly with this motherboard. I actually fixed it on one setup by upgrading the Intel chipset drivers (Intelinf update available at Intel site) and the SBLive drivers (drivers only no Audio HQ crap) but this did not work on the second PC. The PC I couldn't fix just has the emulation disabled permanently with no problems at all. |

I found this solution in the Help guide in the computer about updating the BOIS to the latest version. Seeing as my computer was only about six months older I thought what a load of bull!!!. But touchwood it seems to be working fine since, the computer shuts down, as it should. Hope this helps a bit. Dave (merlin) |
