I say a Celeron, Duron around 1Ghz, 128MB, 20GB, 4-8MB VRAM. 13 inch tft screen, builtin modem and perhaps network 100BT. Most work is ok, games NO! Graphics editing probably if not too intensive. PC Company, ASUS may be cheaper, tend to buy larger names so they have intl warranties. I prefer ultra-portables which is priced at a premium. ie. $5,000+ RC |

| 47234 | 2002-05-05 13:47:00 | I wish I could tell you which is the best, because the one I bought, that I thought was the best, turned out to be rubbish. So many things were wrong with it, and for months I couldn't get any mileage out of it. The brand was Acer Travelmate and it cost a heck of a lot more than $3000. It was just a huge disappointment, especially as I'd done weeks of internet research and this one seemed to have the fewest complaints lodged against it. Hope you fare better when you make your final decision. |

| 47235 | 2002-05-05 23:36:00 | Hi Sue We use Asus laptops and computers in the office and I have found them to be very good and reliable. Have a look at Dick Smiths Website as they have a good selection from $2500 upwards |

| 47236 | 2002-05-06 03:27:00 | Thankyou for all your comments on the best laptop for $3000. It sounds as though the ASUS is looking good, and I will view Dick Smiths or get one made up. I am not confident to DIY these things. PS I have been into computers since the days we carried boxes of cards into the Uni of Canterbury's card reader for their B6718. It's a major struggle to keep up!!! |
