| 47448 | 2002-05-06 11:52:00 | just heard from a mate who is having trouble with his pc staying connected with good phone lines. looks to be pc hardware prob. but while he was talking to a manager at XTRA he was told(so he says) that telecom have to 'garrantee' a 33600bps connection. if thats true then thers a few people going to be hammering telecom to get phone line fixed. what your thoughts people? true or bull? i had heard from telecom tech that they will not fix unless its below a certain spec and now will charge for any call outs if the lines are up to minimum specs. |

| 47449 | 2002-05-06 12:03:00 | I am sure I read a while ago that it was a PROPOSED guaranteed 9600. There is absoloutely no way they will make any sort of guarantee that comes close to 33600. |

I am uncertain if it would be any different for other devices but I faxed a page to Telecom's fax test that sends it back saying if the line is suitable or not for faxing giving you the recommended speeds and noise allowed on the line. My fax is only 14,400bps though so it's not the speed of modems now but it does give you an idea on your line condition. |
