| 47422 | 2002-05-06 09:42:00 | The first non-beta release of (Version 1.07) of the GODZ <www.planetunreal.com mod for Unreal Tournament is now available for download. The mod has been in development for more than a year and has gameplay that turns UT into a futuristic fighting game similar to Dragonball Z <http://www.dragonball.com>. You can download the mod from the following links: - FilePlanet <www.fileplanet.com - Kreation's Edge <www.cyberkreations.com The requires that Unreal Tournament 436 and Unreal Tournament Bonus Pack 4 are installed. LucasArts has announced that Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds: Clone Campaigns <www.lucasarts.com has gone gold and is expected on store shelves in the week of May 13th. my news report on May 2 I mentioned that Compaq had released a 377MB update for the Augidy and Live Soundcards that come pre-installed in some of their systems. One user has now extracted just the Drivers from the package to reduce download times. The driver set is 13MB and available over at 3DWin <www.3dwin.net These are the instructions of correctly installing the drivers on your machine: To install the Driver, extract the files & run the CTZAPXX executable. As far as I've read this is for XP only, though I don't see why it won't install on Windows 2000 as well :) Note - I installed this Driver myself, Audio HQ, Surround Mixer, etc. do not need to be uninstalled & will work just fine with this new Driver. This Driver also includes OpenAL support, so those of you with Jedi Outcast can delete the openal32.dll file in the Game's directory, the one contained with this Driver is newer & seems to work better also. As far as I can tell it also fixes the Hardware acceleration problems noted in Games like Medal Of Honor: Allied Assault. Seagate has developed a drive that will spin at 15000 RPM. The drive is a 73GB Cheetah and is aimed at applications where data has to be searched and retrieved fast. Seagate is claiming the 15K.3 offers data rates that are 35 percent higher than its 10,000rpm models, and 25 percent higher than its previous generation 15,000rpm models. The company is quoting up to 86MB per second with a sustained data rate of 49MB per second for the drive, with 5.6ms seek times. You can grab them from the links below: - Here <www.nvidia.com(28.84).exe> for W2000/XP - Here <www.nvidia.com(28.85).exe> for WindowsNT These drivers have been posted over at the nVidia Quadro page, but because of nVidia's use of unified drivers they should work just fine on all cards. Guru3d have released a new tweak tool called nVHardPage. This is how they describe the new program: Do you seek an easy way to en/disable overclocking options or vsync option in your detonator drivers without the burden of importing registry entries or the need to go in that registry yourself ? Basically CoolBits and more within your fingertips. This program serves on enabling/disabling hidden features in nVidia control panel and tweaking nVidia Direct3D & OpenGL settings. Supported OS: WinXP, Win2k, Win9x/Me - only CoolBits & Display orientation at the moment. Supported Drivers: Detonators 21.81 and higher. The program features the following new features: Added Fog table em. (D3D) Added Vertical sync. (OGL) Added some infos Added status in tweaks tab Improved Win9x compatibility Fixed bug with detection D3D setttings Fixed incorrect infos Fixed bug with saving own refresh rates Changed code to finding nVidia registry path (not tested in Win2k & Win9x) Download it here <www.guru3d.com Logitech has released a new set of mouseware mouse drivers. The version number is 9.60 build 146, is a 5.9MB download available here <ftp://ftp.logitech.com/pub/techsupport/mouse/mw960enu.exe>. Blindwrite < Suite 4.0 has been released for download. A warez group called ProjectX have hacked/cracked a number of XBox games (Approx 40). This is a bot more about the story: The warez group releases differ in size from around 400mb upto 1500mb and are all in USA/NTSC format. According ProjectX it should work on every development xbox (which cost around the 20.000 - 30.000 dollar) but they think it should work on a normal xbox too but they didn't have a chance to test it yet. Because of the regional code it should only work on the retail x-box from the USA. As soon as the wellknown 'modchips' will be ready (they are not out there YET) the games should be playable on all region xbox machines. You can watch a video of how they did it here <www.headliner.nl and read the rest of the article here <www.headliner.nl Microsoft has released a tool for backing up your Microsoft Outlook Personal Folders. Here's what it does: Personal Folders Backup creates backup copies of your .PST files at regular intervals, making it easy to keep all of your Outlook folders safely backed up. Each .PST file contains all of your Outlook folders, including the Inbox, Calendar, and Contacts. You can have a single .PST file (usually called 'Internet Folders' or 'Personal Folders' in your Folder List), but you might also have an additional .PST file that you use for archiving ('Archiving Folders'). Personal Folders Backup lets you back up any or all of these .PST files. Instructions : Re-Start Outlook On the File menu, choose Backup. To change the backup options, such as which .PST files to back up, click Options. All plans will be affected, with prices rising by at least $10 per month. The 3GB residential plan is likely to be hardest hit, with the possibility of a rise in the order of $25 per month. Whirlpool has learned that Team Leaders within BigPond Broadband have offered bonuses to staff if the price increases are successfully implemented, a tactic which shows that Telstra realises the audacity of raising prices for the third time in a little over a year. The source stresses that the decision hasn't been finalised yet within Telstra. It's my hope that if the inevitable negative consumer response is felt within management ranks, it's possible that it won't happen at all. We can only hope. Of course, it's not all bad news. Other ISPs such as Internode and Netspace are already offering superior value, and with many Telstra ADSL users now owning their modems, it's likely that any more price hikes will see subscribers leaving in larger numbers than ever before. Still with broadband and Optus have signed a deal to provide satellite internet to regional customers. This also from Whirlpool: Optus has signed a supply deal with Victorian-based Satteline Communications that promises to rollout two-way satellite broadband services nationwide to remote and regional areas of Australia, reports The Age <www.theage.com.au This deal follows Optus' last year launch of a two-way satellite broadband service <whirlpool.net.au aimed primarily at the corporate and education sector. The latest agreement will give Optus access to unique Israeli technology licensed to Satteline that allows broadband voice and data links to be installed in regional areas using a two-way satellite platform. Satteline managing director Asci Ashkenazi said the technology allowed regional and remote areas to access high-bandwidth communications without the need to lay expensive cabling across the nation. Optus is threatening to dispose of or shutdown all of it's cable services in Australia including Pay-TV, Telephone and cable internet (which it would try to sell) if the ACCC blocks the proposed merger between Optus and Foxtel for pay TV. Here's a take on the story: Optus is threatening to close down its loss making pay TV and phone cable services <news.com.au if the proposed Foxtel pay-TV deal is blocked. Optus wants to close its pay-TV content business and instead resell content from Foxtel, realising significant cost-reductions. However, the ACCC and other businesses are concerned that Foxtel (and therefore Telstra) would then have a monopoly on pay-TV. Where would that leave OptusNet Cable? 'The expectation within the ACCC was that Optus's broadband cable network would be bought by a rival.' However, with Optus owning a significant amount of the Southern Cross Cable, one of the only major data links out of Australia not owned by Telstra, the question must be raised: who would be capable of buying and operating such a large broadband network? Matrox has finally decided to show that they haven't rolled over and died in the graphics card war with details of their G1000 chip, AKA Parhelia. The details have been small and sketchy but Reactor Critical <www.reactorcritical.com> has posted this news post <http: try and shed some light. Here are some preliminary specs of the new chip: 4 rendering pipelines with 4 TMU per each one; DirectX 9 support. It also includes Pixel Shaders and Vertex Shaders 2.0 as well as all the other features of the new API from Microsoft such as Displacement Mapping and increased to 40-bit color-depth. Since DirectX 9 shaders require more power compared to the previous versions, the 4 vertex shaders pipelines will be implemented in the chip. What is quite interesting, Matrox will introduce 512-bit 2D graphics core ? a big leap forward in contrast to the modern graphics processors. A typical videocard will be a Millenium G1000 and it will include 256 MB of DDR SDRAM memory. As with the 3Dlabs` P10, 256-bit bus-width will be used. Of course, the GPU will have dual 400 MHz RAMDACs, support AGP 8X and other important features of a next-gen graphics processor. Microsoft have posted an official Guide to Multibooting With Windows XP and 2000 <www.microsoft.com Here's a clip from the guide: A computer can be configured to let you choose between two or more operating systems each time you restart the computer. For example, you could set up a server to run Windows. 2000 Server most of the time but allow it to sometimes run Windows NT. Server 4.0 in order to support an older application. With multibooting, you can choose which operating system to run or specify a default OS if no selection is made during the restart process. Before using the multibooting feature, consider the tradeoffs: each operating system uses valuable disk space, and file system compatibility can be complex if you want to run Windows 2000 on one partition and Windows NT Server 4.0 or an earlier OS on another partition. In addition, dynamic disk format introduced in Windows 2000 does not work with earlier operating systems. However, multibooting capabilities are a valuable feature providing the single-machine flexibility not only to run earlier operating systems but also experience the advances in the next version of the operating system, named Windows XP for the client version and currently codenamed 'Whistler' Server for the server version. A new version (3.51) of XP Antispy has been released. XP Antispy allows you to disable suspicious home call functions in Windows XP. The new version features the following change: The setting 'Fast shutdown' couldn't be disabled in the last version, I fixed this. All it takes is a simple 2 line config script and you have yourself a working wall hack. The zoom script also serves as a wall hack if used properly. Bit of a faus pax on Valves part me thinks.
