2012-09-06 09:06:00 | Hi PF1, I want to purchase a version of Microsoft office that I can use (legally) in a small business situation. I have looked online and Office Home & Business seems to be $500 for a license. Does anyone know if there is a better deal or a different product suite for a small business (3 Employees) or will I just have to stump up the cash/use open office?

2012-09-06 09:26:00 | Thanks for the quick reply. I was thinking of using the Office Web Apps but to use it commercially (Not sure if this is the right word) you must subscribe to some service. How good is open office with word/excel (the two mail parts of office that I use) these days. The last time I used it several years ago it was decent, but not at a level I would have considered sending the documents I created with it to clients.

2012-09-06 09:34:00 | Try Libreoffice, Or Oxygenoffice Pro. Both are also free. Thanks for offering up more options! Out of the three free solutions which one would you, the people of PF1 recommend (the most important part of the software is that they play nice with Microsoft Office, if it has any bearing on the choice)?

2012-09-06 09:43:00 | One that I've been playing about with is kingsoft-office (www.kingsoftstore.com) Theres two versions, the free one and the paid. Basically the Free one looks and works almost identical to office 2003, the paid one you can make it look and work like office 2007/2010 ( with the ribbon features). I work with both Kingsoft and Microsoft Office 2010, so far have not found anything that either cant do and the other open. As an example heres a blank page of kingsoft Writer ( paid) on Windows 8: 4215 know a few people who have used open office for years, now have changed. Web Apps options - you have to use a 64Bit version OS ( not a problem these days) , and Office 365 as its known is a paid service from microsoft, its really designed to be web based ( cloud computing) like google Docs etc Office_365 Described here (en.wikipedia.org)

2012-09-06 09:46:00 | I havent tried either yet. But both are similar to OO. Libreoffice is a branch or something of OO. And the other according to the site is an enhanced version (it may have more in it than OO) | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2012-09-06 10:06:00 | Just had a look at the Kingsoft site, they have three versions for their office suite; free, professional ($70.00) and standard ($50.00). Which is the one you are using/recommend? I think I would like to have the newer ribbon interface now that I have learned it so the free version probably wont cut it. Thanks everybody for you input.

2012-09-06 10:25:00 | With regards to Kingsoft - compare the differences - HERE (www.kingsoftstore.co.uk) One thing you can try, download either the Standard or Pro, and try it. It has free Trial ( 30 days From memory) and its fully functional during that time. Should be long enough to try it and see if it suits your needs. If not suitable, you've lost nothing apart from a bit of time. Digby - Legally the Pro can only be installed on one PC and one other device say a laptop, even the retail version. The op wants a 3 user. The Legal description From MS: Office Home and Business 2010 or Office Professional 2010 on your primary PC and your portable device such as your laptop. This license is for your use exclusively.
