1274531 2012-05-10 19:49:00 Husband woke me at 2am this morning complaining of the noise.

He had an insect stuck in his ear.

After attempting to remove it with tweezers, holding a torch to see and holding his ear open more (which required me to use all 3 hands), he went down to A&E.
On the way it finally found it's way out.

Dr said it had caused quite a bit of scratching in it's struggles to go the wrong way.

Glad my hair is long enough to cover my ears.......

1274532 2012-05-10 19:57:00 Hmm, my borderline senile mother was remarking last night about all the insect noise outside. I couldn't hear any insects.

I assumed it was tinitus or yet another manifestation of her diminishing mental status. Maybe I'd better look down her ear canals instead (yuck).

Thanks for the concept,

For fast killing of the offending bug, boiling oil works well. ;)

1274536 2012-05-11 01:34:00 Or a shot of scotch or gin

Just make sure anybody who doesn't know whats going on can see you pouring the liquor down your other half's ear hole.

PS: "which required me to use all 3 hands" ... interesting scenario there, pctek :D

1274537 2012-05-11 02:33:00 I had a similar problem when I was out in the bush for a few days and a moth flew into my ear. It's buzzing drove me crazy and I was sure that I could hear it squealing, "Let me out of here". Anyway next morning the moth appeared to have gone so I carried on with my two day trek to get out of the bush. I thought no more about it.

I was in the Army at the time a few days later I had to go for my six monthly medical check up. The Medic must have peered into my ears as he said, "You have a bloody big moth in your ear". The moth was extracted by putting a towel over my shoulder and my ear was given a blast of water using a syringe. It was only a small moth.
