1275034 2012-05-20 20:40:00 You raised the price $3000 for a ram and hd upgrade!?!?
SSD actually. Don't bag it until you've tried it, then you'll understand why an SSD is a 'requirement'.

I picked an SSD and HDD to keep the price about the same, Iantech went the whole hog. Although I wouldn't go for an intel 320 it's a relatively slow SSD, a 520 is probably a better match for the rest of the hardware. It's also a bit limited by what the website currently has available in it's parts list.

Here's a slightly less over the top system that I'd buy myself if I won lotto or something. Not the best of everything, just what I'd personally go for.

pcpartpicker.com choice of parts. $1067 for a samsung monitor  Expensive!! but nice :) Dunno about the Win7 ultimate, not alot of point unless you use bitlocker I think.

1275039 2012-05-21 03:07:00 Yeah agreed, I usually buy Home premium but when the bill is 6k the difference seems minor. I did discover this week that home premium won't schedule backups to a network drive or NAS so that was part of the reasoning. Does pro have media centre? if so it would do.

I was trying for an IPS monitor and assumed at that price the samsung was(it isn't), Dell have one around the same price that is IPS so probably I'd go for that.
Even if I won lotto I'm not sure I'd truly go for a 6 core i7, an Ivybridge i7 is probably overkill enough and significantly cheaper.

Ditch the monitor altogether( I have an AOC 27" that's not bad), go for 155 instead, get a cheaper version of windows, and the price drops more than $1500
