I know Xnet can support two VoIP lines (using one modem/router unit) with their fibre solution.

1274372 2012-05-09 22:04:00 Thanks for that :) Will let them know. I think they might have an alarm system but that would probably be remedied in the near future ..

I just had a look at the ATA devices like the Linksys. Can that plug into the telephone socket at the wall?
I ask b/c they probably have a house with various telephone jacks and a separate line to a room. Or can you rewire two termination wire thingies and attach those two things into the dual ATA or the Xnet router for example

The ideal way to do it (and the way I've done it with my naked ADSL connection) would probably be to install a couple of jackpoints where your fibre terminates to (RJ45 is easy, as RJ11 phone cables can patch into them - you just wire to the middle two pins of the RJ45) that link back to the Telecom junction box, and connect them to your house wiring instead of the outside phone exchange. Then you just plug the VoIP outputs of the ATA into those, and the ATA acts like the copper exchange from the point of view of your wiring.

1274374 2012-05-10 01:37:00 Orcon are *technically* correct, their Genius Router only supports one, and that's the only way they support residential SIP right now.

You can use their service plus the service of somebody else like 2talk / iTalk still thou

1274375 2012-05-10 03:38:00 Cheers for that.

I think I'll give it some time and things like 2nd phonelines services should be adopted by more providers.
For us though, we would be looking at free included trenching/equip install (not just the router modem) if we were to join. Like how we joined Sky TV.

I'll read that Netguide book which Orcon gave us together with their "fibre is ready for your home" pamphlet.
There is not really a lot of information out there for customers ie., how much is it to install and what needs to be involved in black and white and what happens to our phones.

That one port in the Genius for example, is there a limit or could that one port support 6 phone jacks
And if Orcon is ready for our address, does that automatically mean other ISPs like Xnet is available too

1274376 2012-05-10 04:13:00 Technically if the ISP supports UFB, then yes, if it's ready for one then it should be ready for all. Chilling_Silence (9)
