1274218 2012-05-10 01:41:00 Once again piracy is the more hassle-free option.

Faster, easier, better quality, available internationally at the same time.

1274220 2012-05-10 02:49:00 I did a comparison on Quickflix. The quality was crappier than the 700MB, 7-yr old rip of American Pie: The Wedding that I did from DVD. I'd rather watch that .... I can download a full 720p rip in the same amount of time that I can stream the movie, so it's kinda like "Why bother with this crappy, well below DVD quality rip, when I can get it in 720p!" 1274221 2012-05-10 03:05:00 I guess it's so they can save bandwidth.

OR, if they or the rights holders of the film are a little bit retarded, they might think that somehow, if you were able to stream a decent version, you might take your camcorder and film the screen, and make a pirate copy, or do something like that.

Which might just make a little bit of sense, if it wasn't for the fact that as you say, there will be a high quality pirated version on the internet somewhere anyway, making the whole exercise completely pointless.

Pretty typical though, I suppose.

"Let's offer a substandard quality product and then complain when people would rather pirate"

1274222 2012-05-10 07:21:00 I use unblock-us.com. It's $4.95 CAD a month. You simply enter new DNS server settings in your device (I use it mainly on my PS3) and you're away. I have Netflix and VUDU on my PS3. Took a little bit of setting up, you have to sign up for a US PSN account, using a valid US address and then that allows you to download the Nexflix and VUDU 'apps'. There is also Amazon video on demand and another service that I can't remember the name of right now, but Netflix and VUDU seem the best.

There is even instructions on the unblock-us site on how to set up all the services. I think Netflix is $7.99 / month for unlimited use and VUDU is pay per view (rented The Darkest Hour last week for $4.99 USD in HD).

1274224 2012-05-11 09:09:00 alternate DNS or VPN again, still I guess if the price has dropped it makes it even MORE reasonable. It's still a decent price.

I like the Pay as ya go. Saves trawling for downloads to fill the cap one month and trying not to go over the next.
