47598 2002-05-07 10:32:00 Just wondering how to get rid of the Task Scheduler in Windows 98 SE.

It just sits there I never use it. So it must be taking up some memory sitting in the System Tray.

47599 2002-05-07 11:22:00 From the Help Files:

To turn off Task Scheduler

Open the Task Scheduler window by double-clicking My Computer and then double-clicking the Scheduled Tasks folder.
On the Advanced menu, click Stop Using Task Scheduler.

Note

When you turn off Task Scheduler, your scheduled tasks will not run and Task Scheduler will not start automatically the next time you start Windows.

47600 2002-05-07 11:31:00 I got rid of mine ages ago and can't really remember how I did it, but...

In My Computer/Windows Explorer go to Scheduled Tasks, right click on each, choose Properties and untick the box that says Enabled.

There must be a quicker way to do the lot at once but like I say, I can't remember it.

Look in msconfig (Start/Run/msconfig) and untick Scheduling Agent (mstask.exe) under the Start-Up tab.

47603 2002-05-08 02:47:00 HOLD ON everyone, DONT remove Task Scheduler, it automatically runs Winalign, a Microsoft program that speeds up the loading of Microsoft executables and MS aligned programs like MS Office.
It gets loaded in the Tune Up Application Start in Task Scheduler.

Cheers

47604 2002-05-08 03:47:00 This is not completley true files only need to be aligned once. the task scheduler jsut checks every time to see if office has been installed and if yes aligns the files once done it deletes the scheduled task - ther fore task scheduler is not needed for alignment. you can just run Walign.exe your self - perhaps once now and then again if office - or any microsoft product is installed.
