is it possible to make a network using the internet. My friend an I want to make one because where making a site and need to share files. Is it possible to use My Network Places or another program? Would i have to get a Permanent IP? Please post anything on how to do it. Im using WinMe and my friend has Win98. We both use a 56k modem.

47548 2002-05-07 08:58:00 it's always easyer if at least one of you has fixed IP, and if this was so, i would set up a ftp server on the machine with the fixed IP, and stash the files there, if the other person grabs a copy and uploads a modified version it will of course replace the original, in short behaving much like a shared drive within a network. password protection etc is fairly standard. There is a heap of FTP servers on tucows.co.nz Have a look there. Guest (0)
47549 2002-05-07 09:07:00 oooops i didn't read the 'both on 56k modem bit' still, if you go to http://whatismyip.com/ or use a programme that displays your ip address, you will still be able to use ftp. ICQ file transfer could be another option. Also what about putting the files you are sharing on somewhere else again, like your isps homepage server? Just create a folder that is not directly linked to! Guest (0)
47550 2002-05-08 04:43:00 You might have problems with security ... there are nasty people out there.

Why not just use a dialup connection between the two? You're using the phone lines anyway. It's probably easier to consider one of them as the server and the other a client.
