47555 2002-05-07 07:23:00 I have two computer connected to my 10Mbps Network hub one Running Win ME and one running Win XP. My win Me Machine is running ICS (internet connection sharing) which is working fine (I am sending this message though it from my XP machine). The Problem I have I my machines cannot see each other, I have setup-up several win 9X networks before so I have checked all the obvious.
I thought it might be because my Win Me machine uses FAT 32 an XP uses NTFS however all really want to do is share a printer on my Win Me machine so that shouldn?t really stop them viewing each other?? I have also tried using Search<Computers or people> to find the other computer which will usually find a machine that is not listed, however still no luck.

At the moment I am forced to send files from one pc to the other via ICQ to get things printed, which is a real pain in the neck.

Is there some extra setting that I need to change to let them see each other in my workgroup?

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers Liam

47556 2002-05-07 23:15:00 If you open a command prompt and run:

NBTSTAT -A x.x.x.x

where x.x.x.x is the IP address of the remote computer, do you get a Netbios nametable returned?

If not then you are not able to talk netbios over TCP/IP, so windows networking won't work. You will then need to check the bindings to see if both Client for MS networks and File and print sharing is bound to TCP/IP on the network cards. Make sure you're not enabling File and Print sharing to the internet on the Win ME machine though (eg by binding it to TCP/IP on a Modem for example)

47557 2002-05-08 00:35:00 Thanks for your help.

I tried a NBTSTAT -A 192.168.0.1 from my XP machine; HOST NOT FOUND, then from my ME machine NBTSTAT -A 192.168.0.2, and got the same message. I checked all the bindings and disabled file and printer sharing (ME machine) for the dialup connection, but still no luck.

Any ideas??

Cheers
