47755 2002-05-08 10:40:00 In a few days time I shall be tuning into a live discourse in streaming Real Audio on the Internet. Does anybody know how I can record this discourse to my hard drive in, say, Real Audio, Windows Media or MP3? Is there a utility or a workaround that will help me to do it? Guest (0)
47756 2002-05-08 11:01:00 A cassette tape deck plugged into the sound card works well. I use one here for just that purpose. If you can find a way to record a stream direct to HD i would be VERY keen to know how the heck you did it! Guest (0)
47757 2002-05-08 13:43:00 I use a software called RealAudio Wave Recorder, and I think this is what you need. It record live Real Audio into wave file. See:

47758 2002-05-08 20:59:00 The best method is to use Real Encoder 5.1 (it's better for just recording streaming audio than later Real programs which have more bells and whistles for putting audio on web pages)

It will record directly to Real Media (.rm) format, which is compressed and very, very much smaller than .wav.
Its easy to use, I use it all the time to record from streaming audio programs, often leave it running overnight.

You can download it from this site which is also a tutorial.

If you are running XP there could be a problem, but I think there's a work around.

In the volume control options you need to select (in win98) Mixed Output, and make sure its volume control is checked.
Cheers.

47759 2002-05-08 21:08:00 There is a way you can use your favourite recording program too.

Go into windows volume control (double click the speaker in the task bar) and go to properties and pick recording. It will chancge the items in the volume window to the different recording options available.

If you click select under stereo mixer (or a similar name) you will be able to record ANYTHING that passes through the sound card. (even the windows sounds that play when you do stuff on the desktop)

You will need to tweak the volume control as one of my computers needs it two pixels above the bottom and the other needs it near the top.

Once recorded you can put it in whatever format you like...

Hope this helps,
Craig.
