47740 2002-05-08 07:25:00 I have just installed SUSE Linux 8.0, and all is working well, specially love KDE 3.0, however, the installation hasn't instlled necessary drivers for the on-board PROMISE ATA Raid controller, and unfortunately I have 3 of my hard drives on it, all in seperate raid arrays. Linux can 'see' the drives, and assing it /dev/ataraid, however I can not access any data off the drives, 2 of the drives are FAT32, and one is NTFS, so not worried bout NTFS one. Also LILO cant boot Windows because the windows partition is also on the RAID controller. Linux is installed on Primary Master onboard controller, so no problem there. I know it can be done, because it was working fine in Mandrake 8.2, jus' put SUSE 8.0 on cos it came with KDE 3, so if there is no solution, will have to go back to Mandrake 8.2 and DL KDE from there.
Thanks for your help if any.

47741 2002-05-08 08:21:00 dibs on SuSE 8 if you end up backing out!

My experience with RAID is limited, but it sounds to me like SuSE HAS loaded the correct RAID driver. Perhaps it just isn't loading FAT32 & NTFS support?

That doesn't answer the Windows boot problem though. Were you using LILO or GRUB under Mandrake? Did you change any BIOS settings (eg Boot Order) at all? Or add a new HDD? If the Windows boot sector is where you left it, and still points to the same hardware, everything should still work. Something other than just the OS must have changed.

47742 2002-05-09 05:33:00 Did you tell it to make MS partition accessible in the installation script? Check that you have the appropriate filesystem modules. Should be in the /lib/modules/filesystems/ directory.

First try manually mounting one of the MS ones then if that works change /etc/fstab to include the ones you want.

Booting Windows --- if Windows could boot itself (without drivers, because Windows can't load drivers until it has actually accessed the disk and started loading) , and Mandrake could, there is something wrong with your lilo configuration file.
