47769 2002-05-08 11:46:00 My old 486 machine running Win3.11 is finally starting to bite the dust. The floppy no longer works and I have foolishly given away the modem before I got my old data files off it.

I have tried running the old Laplink DOS executible 'll3.exe' on my partners Deskpro P200MMX/Win98SE (from DOS) but it can't seem to find the COM ports. Even if I could get 'll3' going on the Pentium I'm still not sure about using its Remote Install because I can't recall what you need to set on the remote machine. Something to do with the 'MODE' command if I recall.

Does anyone have any suggestions short of physically pulling the HDD from the 486 and installing it in the Pentium (which won't go down well with its owner <g>).

47770 2002-05-08 12:40:00 Laplink 2k for the FAT32 on the P200

Laplink 6 for the DOS based 486

Or bribe with an evening out and open the Pentium.

You instal it on the 2 computers and pump the data from the 486 via a Laplink cable which connects the parallel printer ports. If you turn error checking on it slows the transfer but gives you an accurate copy. Guest (0)
