48161 2002-05-10 22:22:00 How does one alter the timing when the isp disconnects ..?
A green box pops up with a choice to disconnect or not , and that the connection has been idle for x minutes. Have no knowledge as to how to access it.. R.M.

48162 2002-05-10 23:55:00 More than likely, this is within Windows. Internet Explorer has a setting which will automatically disconnect if it thinks that your connection has been idle for X minutes. To stop this, open up your control panel and double click 'Modems'.

Select your modem and click the properties button. In the window that pops up, selection the 'connection' tab. There you will find a setting that is titled 'Disconnect a call if idle for more than...' take the tick out of this and click OK. Now you should not get the dissconnect message any more.

Be aware though that if you accidentally leave you connection open, then you may incur extra fees or possibly leave your computer open to hackers. In this case, be sure to use a firewall.

From Internet Explorer, click Tools > Internet Options.

A window should pop up - click the Connections tab at the top, and then highlight your connection, and click Settings.

In the new window that opens click Advanced, and then set how many minutes you want to wait on the 'Disconnect if idle for XX minutes'

Click OK to close all the windows, and you should be set!

48165 2002-05-11 02:48:00 Thanks Mike .. Followed your line of clicks , and found that I had to click properties instead of advanced and then dialling..
Am running ME so dont know if this accounts for the difference.
However it was successful so thanks to you and again to Mike. The learning curve never stops!
Cheers. RM.
