48136 2002-05-10 13:05:00 I also have another friend to get his laptop connected to my home networking. However, it seems that none of my network cables would take up the job.
I am confused by these cables since they all perform diferently. One of them can't connect 2 computers directly but works through a hub, another one was just the other way round. When I tried one of them to connect the laptop to the hub,i can only get the lights on the laptop LAN card shining but not the hub.
Directly connecting didn;t work either.
OK, maybe that is too much.Could anyone just tell me how many kinds of networking cables do we have?(Crossover cable, standard LAN cable...)
By the way, the LAN on the laptop is Xircom ethrnet card(adapter).
Tahnks a lot

48137 2002-05-10 13:13:00 As far as I am aware there are only two types of UTP (unshielded twisted pair) cable.

That is crossover and non-crossover. The crossover is used for directly connecting two computers. The other is for when using a hub/switch/etc.
