48034 2002-05-10 01:03:00 Hi Team

I enter statistical data in Excel, typically in around 25-30 columns by 12 rows. I produce my charts and graphs ok, but when I add fresh columns of data and try to update my charts or graphs I can't get the data to appear.

Sometimes by fiddling around for a while I can get data from some rows to update but I'm buggered if I can get the lot to add itself on. I've tried using the techniques detailed in the help files i.e. copying the new columns and pasting them to the chart and I've tried the various pasting options but nothing works for me.

I've been struggling with this for ages and I just can't make it work.

Now that I've got the bit between my teeth, I also have a page/format printing problem which comes and goes at random. I print in landscape format and very occasionally when I click print the screen display changes to a squashed landscape format, very small and very wide. It will print like that if I let it so it is an actual page formatting change. I can fix it by changing to portrait in page setup then back to landscape but sometimes this doesn't work and I have to go into desperation mode, changing several setting then changing them back, after which it will print ok.

Program is Excel 2000, OS is Win98, printer is Canon BJ610, just realise I don't know if this occurs when I try to print to my HP laserjet.

Any Excel mavens out there who can help please?

Cheers

48035 2002-05-10 01:56:00 If you are adding extra entries to existing graph data, the easiest way to update the graph is to single click the mouse within the graph then scroll the worksheet to where the end of the data list is. The data will be outlined by a coloured line with a small square in the corner of the last entry - drag this square along to include the new data. There may be more than one hilighted row to drag along this way.
An other way is to right click inside the graph and select 'Source Data' and overtype the cell references in the Values box with the new cell references.

Regarding the squashed printing, do you have 'fit on page' selected as a print option?

48036 2002-05-10 02:26:00 Hi Russell

Thanks for the advice.

I've just found that when my HP printer is selected the squashed screen effect doesn't happen. Looks like it is a Canon vs Microsoft argument so I'll go search for info/driver updates on MS & Canon sites. It used to do it with my Canon BJC 620 printer as well so it might be more than just a driver issue.

Since posting my query I have also discovered that I can always collapse it by using print preview, and I can restore it by either doing the landscape-portrait-landscape shuffle or by selecting page setup/chart/scale to fit page then reselecting use full page (my default).

I'll look at the adding data problem over the weekend and let you know how I get on. Your advice is subtly different to how the Excel Help files say to do it so I'm ever hopeful! I have a major graphing job to update hence my surge of interest in getting a solution.

Cheers
