| 48011 | 2002-05-09 22:09:00 | Am having the following problems: - When I open a new or existing Word document, my screen resolution resets itself from 32-bit down to 8-bit and I have to reset it each time. The troubleshooter has been no help at all. - My Office Assistant keeps getting stuck in a loop of repeating the same action over & over. - When I save I get weird error messages about files that I'm not using, something about corruption and failure to save thesis.dot, which is a Word template - When I save 'shadow files' appear, only 1kb in size and with corrupted titles, ie as well as the official file (titled Thesis chapter draft), i get empty files called $~esis chapter draft This is a 3-week old laptop running Windows XP. The problem only seems to affect Word. When it first appeared I uninstalled the whole Office 97 suite and installed Office 2000 Pro instead, but still have the same problems. So far it's only minor annoying things but I'm worried i've picked up some kind of nasty virus! My system came with PCcillin which hasn't found anything; as a student I can't afford to buy anything better. Had the AVG free anti-virus program recommended to me, but every time i tried to run it my computer crashed! Any advice gratefully recieved, thanks |
