| 48319 | 2002-05-11 13:03:00 | My 133MHz PC has 500 MHz of RAM but it runs painfully slow when I'm cleaning up old A4 or A5 photos that I've scanned at 600 dpi. (For example using the clone tool.) I don't want to scan at lower values. Are there any changes to my computer settings I could make? Any other ideas? Apart from Internet Security, there are no other programs running. Dave. |

Make sure that you are running NO other software. (The major hog which it would be nice to turn off is Windows.) Turn off antivirus, network software, screen savers, all the rest of the things that start up magically at boot time. (Even if they are 'only sitting in memory' they are (1) sitting in memory, and (2) using Windows resources (to see if you want them to do something). Catch up on your reading. |

I'm in the process of building a new system, but I run quite a few graphics programs on here. I also do quite a bit of scanning and my machine is faster than one I use at work (233MHz, 32MB, 4GB) I would reccomend first maybe cleaning out your system, how long since you reformatted last? If it's been a while and you do lots of things on your system, maybe it's time for a cleanout? |
