48289 2002-05-11 08:37:00 Have been talking to guy who says that he uses 'edonkey' program to download programs/software/music/movies etc. He claims that on 56k he consistently d/loads at 7 to 8kB/s.
I am all for experimenting and discovering different programs but for some reason I cannot download. I went to website (and got bombarded with heaps of pop-up screens) and got lost in it all so I went to downloads.com. I found the program but when I try to download error says 'cannot locate server'.

Can anyone advise me where I can d/load and/or if anyone has used it.... your opinions.

Cheers

48290 2002-05-11 11:14:00 sam mate. Edonkey is yet another file sharing programme thats about it. I fail to see how it can compensate for anything.Unless you live next door to a telecom exchange you get wot you got.(so to speak) and if your mate gets thats sort of speed imagine what he could get on jetstream.
It is possible to download rates that quick on a dialup but the condtions have to be perfect. and these days they are few and far between. This programme will not help solve this problem. If your really concerned ring telecom mention my name. (i should have a huge folder by now)

PS if anyone feels left out its me. They tell me Im 5yrs away before i can get jetstream

48291 2002-05-11 11:16:00 Hi Sam,

I have used edonkey a couple of times and found it to be very good. The use of peer to peer networking means that you can simultaneously download from several other computers and you are only limited by your own modem speed.

The latest version of edonkey can be downloaded from their servers at www.edonkey2000.com
