48505 2002-05-12 11:00:00 WIN 98 regularly reports Registry errors and offers to fix the error - usually successfully. Two programmes seem to be involved - AudioGalaxy and MSN Messenger. Is there any way to interrogate the OS to find out what part of the registry is being corrupted, and/or what programme is the culprit? Guest (0)
48506 2002-05-13 06:11:00 At last there is someone else with my problem!!

Microsoft didn't know how to fix it so I have banned all access to Hotmail. Strangely enough MSN gives no trouble and I haven't experienced problems with AudioGalaxy. Mind you, I have the spyware-free version so maybe that's why?

We try and avoid the registry errors by downloading our Hotmail emails via Outlook Express. It would still be good to know how to fix it though.

One thing I did notice not long ago was that when I updated Win98 and Internet Explorer 5.5 we were able to access Hotmail online without problems for a short time. Not sure when the problem came back so I can't pinpoint the culprit unfortunately.

48507 2002-05-13 06:55:00 These sorts of errors are hard to pin down. Havent got MSN, AudioGalaxy or Outlook, so dont have first hand knowledge of the problem.

It would be possible to take snapshots of the Registry before and after the errors by exporting the registry to .reg text files, and then use a text comparator to showup the differences.

This could tell you possibly which program is causing the problem, but knowing where the registry error is may not necessarily help. This assumes you can start Windows without it automatically correcting the registry.

You could try running System File Checker to see if there is a corrupted system file, also uninstalling the suspect programs and then reinstalling so that the registry is re-written to.

Make a note of the exact error messages to see if there is any help in the MS Knowledge Base.
