| 48613 | 2002-05-13 04:12:00 | Running XP Home on an AMD 1300 with 256mb RAM. Initially all was well but now the whole system has slowed down dramatically and the performance monitor quite often shows 100% CPU usage when very little is open. Have PCCillin virus checker resident and it reports no problems. Task manager shows 28 TSR programs running on average. Is there any freeware etc out there that can analyse and fix performance problems or is there something else I should do first. | Guest (0) | ||

| 48617 | 2002-05-13 14:59:00 | Hi Susan B, I'm curious. Using XP Pro, and when I have a look at my startup tab in msconfig, I have only 11 programs running at startup, but, when I go Ctrl + Alt + Del and click on processes tab, I have 36 processes running. Question: Do I also go through my running processes with pac-portals list and stop unecessary processes from running? If so, when I click on 'end the process' it starts up again on next startup. How do I stop that happeneing? Thanx in advance. Cheers. |
