48678 2002-05-13 10:45:00 Hi

I have a external CD-RW can the software be used on 2 PCs if I use the cd writer on these 2 PCs?? Referring to Adaptec Easy CD 4.02e (OEM - came with the drive). This is legally of course. Or would I need to buy 2 copies of Adaptec to use on 2 PCs or to uninstall one copy and install another copy each time I use the CD-RW on another PC.

48679 2002-05-13 11:06:00 I haven't seen what the license for that software states. But at a guess.

It would not be legal to have it installed on two machines at once. But as only one can actually burn at one time, I don't *think* they would actually mind.

After all it is an external cdrw and they can't realistically expect you to keep uninstalling it.

Though if you were to use the drive on someone else's computer you should uninstall the software.

48680 2002-05-13 11:22:00 Hypothetically, if you are the owner of both computers and using the writer and its software on one PC at a time, why wouldn't they allow it to be installed on both machines at once? It can, after all, only be used when the writer is plugged in, and that is only one machine at a time.

But if you are thinking of taking the writer to your mate's house to use on the second computer, along with the software, then my interpretation is that that is illegal, whether you uninstall it each time or not. Your mate will have to buy his/her own.

But if you're wanting to take it to a friend's house, to make it totally legal you'd have to uninstall from your computer and install on friend's, then uninstall from friend's and install back on yours when you're finished.
