When I go into start/settings/display/setting and try to set resolution to 640 X 480 pixels then click apply - the monitor shuts off. Power on light is off. Anyone come across this before? |

The video card is displaying a refresh rate that the monitor can't handle. i.e 200hz @ 640x480. You can either change your monitor type, or use a program like NVMAX (If it is a nvidia chipset video card) to change the refresh rate for that resolution. |

Dragon slayer, thanks for info. My refresh rate was 75htz and on 800 X 600 was ok.After your post I tried a lower refresh rate & picture was no good so I went higher to 120 and the screen shut down same as when I changed manually to 640 X 400.When I rebooted it was locked on lower resolution & screen shut down during boot up. In safe mode I changed refresh to adapter default & have got screen back on but in display setting only selection choice is 640 x 400 other settings don't respond. Any ideas as to how I can restore the display back to how it was before the refresh rate was changed.Video card/ chip is an Sis 6326 AGP Rev HO. |
