| 48816 | 2002-05-14 10:35:00 | winME, 1.4ghz Athlon,256ram, 40gb (now down to 27gb) Have noticed that recently programs are loading little slower and also that my hard drive light is always flashing (even with no programs open). Right, I thought, time for a clean out. Using Add/Remove I got rid of stuff that I had d/loaded but never use now. Used Regcleaner to clean out same and using Nortons Optimisation Wizard to defrag. This has in the past been successful except now. I cant work out why my hard drive is always noisy. I even tried ctrl+alt+delete to 'end task' all programs except explorer and systray and yet still hard drive is noisy. What else could be causing system to use resources when all known programs are closed? Maybe it is time for a reformat. Is the constant 'chatter' from the hard drive actually doing any damage or am I just paranoid? sam m |

If you click on the Plus next to Software Environment and then on Running Tasks, you will get a bigger picture of what just is going on. You may be able to discern some rogue program that should not be doing anything. I hope you are running a virus scanner... |
