48820 2002-05-14 10:32:00 Is there a program that will let you know that someone is trying to contact you while you're online. Guest (0)
48821 2002-05-14 10:46:00 If you have 025 or 027 mobile then subscribe to Telecom's Callminder answering service. When someone rings home phone and leaves messages then you get notified on mobile.

If you mean notified on computer while someone is ringing then I don't think that is possible as anyone ringing will get engaged signal. A program would be needed that could detect a busy signal. hmmm.... that give me an idea...........

48822 2002-05-14 11:07:00 I have seen products that do exactly what you want. They are little hardware devices plug in-between your pc and phone, they notify you of an incoming call and let you talk to the person for about 4 secs without cutting off you net connection, you then have to decide weather to keep talking or weather to say goodbye and keep surfing.

I can?t remember where I saw the handy devices or how long ago for that matter, but they are around! I think you also have to subscribe to call waiting.

Cheers

48823 2002-05-14 11:25:00 If you get Call Waiting added to your phone account, when someone dials your phone number while you are online and connected with your modem, your modem will normally disconnect and your phone will ring. Guest (0)

48825 2002-05-14 12:08:00 I saw some something at the Big Boys Toys Show last November which let you receive calls while online - can't remember what stand or company it was but from memory it was some hardware you installed - maybe someone else who was there saw it and has more info. Guest (0)

48827 2002-05-15 03:27:00 It wasn't a piece of hardware called a 'second line' was it?

If you have not got Call Waiting, there is no way for you to ever know that there is someone else trying to call you. The engaged signal goes to the caller. It does not get to your line. Your line is engaged.

Some modems disconnect when they get the Call Waiting tones. That was not designed in. It's what is called in the trade an 'advanced feature'.

V92 might fix it for standard lines; ADSL allows voice alongside data.
