| 48829 | 2002-05-14 10:45:00 | Since a complete reinstall of Win98 I am unable to hear midi files. Win Media Player happily goes through the motions, so does Winamp, but no sound comes. Other file types are fine - wav,mp3. Any ideas what can be wrong? The settings seem fine - including the default registry settings as suggested on MS KB Q255543. |

If you have more than one device, try changing it to another. If you have only one device listed, then click the Devices tab. You will see under MIDI devices and instruments, you device listed. Click on properties and make sure the device is enabled. If you do not see any devices listed at all, then you will have find out what sort of MIDI device is in your computer and install the appropriate drivers. This is usually found at the sound card manufacturers web site. |

My settings all seemt o be correct as you suggest - ESS MPU401 is the default and only midi device and it is enabled. Still no joy with actual sound though. |
