I wasn't aware that that type of registry problem (or any registry problem for that matter) could lose data stored in separate data folders. I've had my share of those registry messages in the past and never once lost work. Registry errors are an OS or program issue, not data. I stand to be corrected but it doesn't sound right to me. You could try running Regclean which is a MS registry cleaner for Win95 but also works with Win98. You can download it from: <download.com.com Also try booting into DOS and at the command prompt type scanreg /fix [enter key], then scanreg /opt These two commands may hopefully fix the registry problems and compact the registry. As Billy says its really odd that you seem to lose saved data. You may also have a dodgy program that is causing the registry problems. Try running System File Checker to look for any corrupted system files and restore if found. Have a general tidy up by running Disk Cleanup, Scandisk and Defrag. Let us know how you get on. |

Started happening a few months ago and Microsoft doesn't know how to fix it. We now avoid Hotmail online. I don't have files going missing though, just the registry errors. |

| 48984 | 2002-05-17 02:25:00 | The files I am losing from the error are download files/Critical Update thingies and recent desktop changes. I'm am also losing aything that I have changed to do with deleting files and changes to anything in Control Panel. My computer has currently come up with another error when starting up saying '.... can't access Norton Antivirus Core files' or something along the lines of that. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Liam |
