48957 2002-05-15 05:57:00 Hi. Im running Windows XP Pro and I am the administrater. There is also a 'Flatmates' and 'Guest' account.
Is it possible to some how disable the printer in the two later accounts as I suspect there has been some printing without my permission (I pay for the ink you see!). My flatmates are able to use my computer when I am not around but I dont mind this. I know I could hide the cable but there's got to be a better way!
Regards

48958 2002-05-15 09:04:00 Hi benny - hey do you want to actually remove the printer from these 2 accounts so they have no use of it at all OR do you want to be able to let them print from their accounts with your knowledge ?
cause it is possible to remove it (in xp home ed)from these accounts simply but as for setting it up so that the printer is still there but needs to be for instance activated with a password etc.. I will have to think on that one! let us know if you want to remove it totally or the later (if the latter is even possible)and then we can instruct you! e.g just delete it from the other accounts, as i had the opposite prob when setting up my computer - it didn't go into those accounts only the one i installed it in and i wanted it in the other ones too!

48959 2002-05-15 09:11:00 I have a solution.

Rig your printer up to a coin machine so that other users have to pay a buck or two when they want to print a page, just like in the library.

Easy way to make some money!

48960 2002-05-15 10:32:00 hmmmmmmm... either/or!
The bottom line is I dont want them printing without my knowledge so by disabling it in their account I would always have to be around to log onto my account to print something (which would be good).
I guess the password way would be similar so what ever is easiest!
Thanks J ZEP!

48961 2002-05-15 10:44:00 Well I charge 20 cents per page of plain text!
By my calculations it costs approx 15 cents worth of ink per page then 2 cents a sheet of paper... = 17 cents!
So make 3 cents profit but then I have to consider things like wear and tear on the printer etc etc!
They can easily go up to the uni (5 mins away) and print for 5 cents a page but no...
Benny :)
I wonder how much I coin machine thing is!?
