| 49047 | 2002-05-15 21:59:00 | I have the same prob as on Page 95 of PCWorld - cannot type single apostrophes in MS Word and I get French accents and other symbols. Recommended fix does not work in Windows XP as Start/ Settings/ Control Panel cannot access my keyboard directly. Regional Setting is definitely New Zealand - English and Word is set up for English as well. Keyboard is a PCCompany standard one. Cheers |

Click on 'Regional and Language settings'. In the new window that pops up, click on the 'Languages' tab at the top, and click on the 'Details' button. In the new window, scroll down the list until you see 'Keyboard', and a country name underneath that heading. If that country isn't US, then you'll have to change it. To change it, click the Add button, click (in the new window) the box next to 'Keyboard layout/IME', and from the scroll list under that (not from the top scrolldown list - that's for Input language, which should be set to English - New Zealand), select 'US' and click OK. Now you should be back at the previous window, and should now have two options under 'Keyboard'. Click on the one that's NOT 'US' and click on remove. Now 'US' should be highlighted as default. Click OK to close all the windows you have open, and it might ask you to restart (I'm not sure). Now your keyboard should work correctly. HTH Mike. |
