49197 2002-05-16 11:48:00 Does anyone know how I can generate the symbol for mathematical mean (a lower-case x with a horizontal bar right above it) in MS Word ? I searched right through the symbols and couldn't find it. TVMIA for any help. Guest (0)
49198 2002-05-16 12:22:00 I don't know of a particular font that has the mean x-bar symbol. Possibly doing a search in Google might find some.

Once cheats/clever method would be do make an image of the symbol in Paint. Then insert into the document.

Have you tried the Equation Edit program? You call it from Word (I think Insert > Object > Equation Edit), set up your equation, or single character if that's all you want, and then just click out of the equation box and you'll go back to your document.

49200 2002-05-16 13:23:00 What version of Windows are you using? There are a couple of fonts called Math (or Maths) A and Math B which have a lot of mathematical symbols in them. I think they came with Win 98.

When you say you searched right through the symbols, did you go to the Insert Symbol dialogue box and search through all the fonts in the font drop-down list? Most of the text fonts have a fairly standard set of symbols but others such as Cyrillic have all sorts of symbols.

49204 2002-05-17 06:12:00 I looked thru all the fonts in the Insert Symbol drop-down font box, didn't find it there. But looks like someone else had better eyesight than me <G>. Thanks a lot for your reply ! Guest (0)
49205 2002-05-17 06:14:00 Found it. Many thanks indeed ! Guest (0)
49206 2002-05-18 03:37:00 On further checking I found that I hadn't installed Bookshelf Basics and hence didn't have the Bookshelf Symbol fonts on my PC when I looked for the symbol 8-((. Guest (0)
