I don't have the URL for Steve Gibsons firewall site but if you configure Blackice to suit yourself and then pay him a visit, you can test yourself and see if it is what you like. |

| 49165 | 2002-05-16 11:54:00 | FWIW Pete : I used BlackIce for a long time but switched to ZoneAlarm (free version still at this stage) once I found out BlackIce doesn't provide outbound protection. Never had problems with BlackIce but guess I'm a bit paranoid <G>. | Guest (0) | ||
| 49166 | 2002-05-16 12:03:00 | blackice did not have any outbound protection ie would not stop any rouge applacition accessing the net. also it requires updates(like antivirus) for it to detect new 'atacks'. however the new version is ment to have outbound protection but from what i hear its not great. personally i would stick to ZA, tiny, kero, sygate or outpost. don't get me wrong(i'm well known for dislikeing blackice) blackice works perfectly well as an INTRUSION DETECTION SYSTEM, which is what it was origanal sold as. |
