49207 2002-05-16 22:32:00 At approx 11 PM last night I fifnished the actual build and installation on the Operating system on my brand new PC. I built it from scratch, new case, new most things.
I have never ever done this before and now, as far as I'm concerned...I ROCK!!

Yeah, I know it's logically easy etc but it's a huge thing for me. I'm totally self taught and have now achieved what I often wondered whether I could.
Now I know, and so if I can build a pc from scrathc , then anyone can :)
To any wanting to take this step....Go For It.

One happy chickie :)

49208 2002-05-16 22:59:00 thats so nice to see :)

what sort of pc did you build? i usually run various benchmarks to test a new machine(to make sure it runs as fast as its ment to) and keep an eye on the temps.

49209 2002-05-16 23:36:00 Still have quite a bit to do regarding setting up stuff and checking right through whole system, and learning my way round new motherboard, has a 533 Celeron processor, until I get a new one in a couple of weeks, 128MB, old cd rom from old system (and I do mean a little old) but I have a newer one to put in tonight, 40GB HDD.
So mainly a bitser, but thats cool.
Now I have the thrilling task of installing all the programs, and some new ones too, and customising settings etc.
However, my household can now get back to normal, I have another couple of old pc's to put together for kids, family etc but needed to get this one out of the way first. Also a confidence thing, I think.

Anyhow, Thanks for that, maybe time to start looking for a new job!! :))

49211 2002-05-17 02:20:00 Yep I just finished mine as well. It is a Pentium 4 2Ghz with 512MB DDR ram, 80GB Hard Drive, Asus TI4600 Video Card, HP DVD100i DVD+RW, 4 USB 2.0 ports and 4 1.1 USB ports, Network 10/100, Creative Audigy sound card, Smart Card, Memory Stick, and Secure Memory card slots, RAID controller. It rocks. Finishes booting up while my Pentium 3 550Mhz is still doing its memory check. Guest (0)
49212 2002-05-17 02:40:00 Awesome! Congrats. The sacriest part was plugging in the motherboard and then testing to see if it booted up.
Will keep your email address - thanks for that. thats what I call Job Satisfaction :)

Looking for something to do on long winter nights - and that could be it? - but wouldnt know where to start?
What can you read up on to build your own PC - and where do you get good priced parts?
Thanks, Simon
