49051 2002-05-15 23:41:00 On my RedHat 7.3 discs (3) There are about a trillion RPM files in the RPM directories.
Other than loading obvious packages during installation, I will only want to load a few specific packages afterwards.

My problem is that the names of the packages are not particularly descriptive. Is there a listing somewhere of what each package is (preferably sortable by type - eg, games/office/graphics etc)

Thanks

49052 2002-05-16 03:13:00 if you open a xterm in kde or at the commannd the following

if the rpm is not installed

rpm -qip rpmfilename

if it is installed you can leave out the 'p'

doing this will display the packages description

49053 2002-05-16 03:39:00 Thanks Craig but the problem still remains that I would have to go through a gazillion packages <it's going up ;^) > to find the one I might want.

For example, if I was looking for a programme to manage downloads, how would I find all these types of programmes on the disc?
