1300694 2012-09-12 21:38:00 I am using my new Asus Infinity TF700T which I rather like. About the only problem I have found with it is that this site insists on using its mobile version obviously it thinks that Android is only used on phones. Clicking on the "Use Desktop version" at the bottom of the page dose nothing. This happens using either the Asus browser or Chrome. Is this a known bug? There is no problem with changing versions of any other sites that I have found so far. Any advice is welcome. CliveM (6007)
1300695 2012-09-12 22:00:00 I don't recall that button ever working here - I suspect they have their vBulletin styles set badly or something. If you use Chrome, you can use it's own "Request Desktop Site" function, instead of PressF1's "Desktop Site" button to get the full site to work. Alternately, Android's default browser also has a "Desktop View" feature which does it. They send different headers, so the site just thinks it's a desktop browser, basically. inphinity (7274)

1300697 2012-09-12 22:26:00 Thanks to you both. like most things it is simple when you know how. I was just to stupid to look in the right place :) CliveM (6007)
1300698 2012-09-12 23:01:00 The browser setting works fine for me on my asus tablet but it forgets and has to be reset every session. I have found sites in the past that refused to give me anything but the mobile version no matter what though. Doesn't happen often though, and the mobile version of these forums is quite good because it has no adds and loads very fast. dugimodo (138)
1300699 2012-09-13 04:47:00 Yeah we have a 3rd party plugin that's doing the detection, it's currently *forcing* anything labelling itself as Android to use the Mobile version.

They've removed my access so I can't easily login and update / modify the theme files etc... I'm not sure why.

Yes, I agree, and I don't mind resetting it when I want to switch between mobile and desktop. Asus Android TF 101.

I've been wondering when PCworld would take control of their forum, it must bug the crap out of them that its mostly out of their hands. Granted it will almost certainly kill the forum when they do assert their right of control, but its a case of when not if. Im sure they were surprised by the backlash when they have intervened in the past, and when the do take over I'm sure they will never understand where everyone went or why........ Metla (12)
