1300569 2012-09-12 04:46:00 If I look at the Access 2010 help (by pressing F1 in VBA code for instance), I get the help, but some of the fonts are strange. Notably in code samples, where I see a courier-type font, but at a very large point size. The effect is to make the stuff unreadable. I suspect MS is looking for a font that I don't have installed, or there is an option I have set somewhere that is affecting it. I can't find any references to this when I search.

Has anyone had this experience, or can suggest where else to look?

TIA

1300570 2012-09-13 20:10:00 Well, since nobody has suggesated a better solution, I'll mention the obvious, blunt attack to the problem... complete uninstall of everything Office and Developer related, then reinstall.

Your diagnosis about the font issue makes sense, but who knows where the setting lies? While a reinstall is tedious, it's most likely to succeed in replacing the bad setting or font.

It's even possible the setting is somewhere in the Desktop Themes or in the Accessability (Disability) Options.

1300571 2012-09-13 20:29:00 Thanks for the response.

I don't think a re-install will help because:

It is a brand-new install.
The same thing happens on my laptop - also a brand new install.

I've also been pursuing this on another forum and as a result have found that the issue does not exist with Word or Excel - only with Access. I can go to exactly the same help item and only see the problem in Access. There have been suggestions made about assigning a default printer within Access, which didn't help.

I have Office 2010 and Office 2007 installed side by side (which could of course be part of the problem), and if I fire up Access 2007, the problem doesn't show.

Its all very weird.

1300572 2012-09-14 07:01:00 Yeah, I'm aware of other issues within Access, and Excel which have been longstanding issues which MS has only made a token effort to correct... by posting a fix that fails to fix things! (and taking the attitude that the problem no longer exists since there's a 'fix' posted)

They're more interested in pushing the constant upgrade path than they are in making a stable product that just works as it should.

As soon as they can dumb down macros in OOO Base to the level that I can use them I'll be jumping ship for good and giving MS the finger.

1300573 2012-09-14 10:50:00 I've actually found a solution thanks to another forum (Go UtterAccess!). If you change the accessibility options in IE to "ignore font sizes specified on web pages" then the VBA help will respond to the change font size options on its menu bar. I've found that setting it to "smallest" seems to work best for me. It also makes Word and Excel look the same, although they were actually OK before. Whoda thunkit?

I've thought about OOO myself, but I have a big investment in VBA in Access and it is just not worth trying to change.

1300574 2012-09-14 22:11:00 I've also realised that this setting in IE breaks the formatting on any website that uses font sizing - so I've turned it off again and will only re-set it if I'm using a lot of Access help. :badpc: Tony (4941)
