1300533 2012-09-11 20:54:00 Hi all
My son wants to buy a new laptop/notebook for UNI.
His taste is obvious when I look at this (www.noelleeming.co.nz) and this one (www.noelleeming.co.nz).
Has anyone other suggestions with a price tag not higher than what he suggested.
Thanks.

1300535 2012-09-11 21:53:00 The Toshiba Satellite Pro L830 was available online yesterday for $1198:

- i5-3317 1.8 GHz
- Win7pro64, changeable to Win8 at a promo price
- 13.3" 1366 x 768
- 4 GB 1600 MHz Plus spare slot
- 500 GB
- 1 GB graphics HD 7550M Pro-S3
- DVD drive
- 2 x USB3, 1 x USB2
- card reader, HDMI, Bluetooth 3.0
- 1.86 kg

The following are important to me:

- small screen, 14" and below
- relatively light weight, under 2 kg
- Intel i3 with dedicated graphics beats i5 without (I'm relying on the Pressf1 professionals to correct me on this...)
- USB3
- for some people a DVD drive is necessary (not me). A USB DVD drive costs about $80 but when in use will take up 2 x USB slots because they don't make reasonably priced USB3 models yet

Not so important but quite desirable:

- good brand
- i5 PLUS dedicated graphics (I don't care about Gen3, ie Ivy Bridge)
- SSD fast startup ie, hybrid (not SSD for the whole drive)
- higher processor speed eg 2.5 GHz
