1299837 2012-09-09 09:49:00 Hello Everyone!

I have a HP dv6000 entertainment PC. Its a laptop and it got it used about 1 year ago from a friend.

Every 20 Minutes or so it goes into Sleep mode if im in the kitchen not at my computer. Ive checked the power settings and set it to not go to sleep unless i do it manually.

Problem 2: My system sucks power like a hummer sucks gas. If anyone has any tips on how to increase my battery life that would be awesome!
Oh! and its running Windows Vista Service pack 1 Build 6001 according to the system information.

Thanks!

Alex

And because of that, there was a official BIOS "fix" that made the fan/s run at full speed continuously, thus flattening the battery quickly.
In other words, you've been sold a dud.

It's more likely to be overheating/crashing than 'going to sleep'.

1299839 2012-09-09 10:30:00 That isn't helped by the massive overheating problems the HP dv series laptops have had in the last few years. icow (15313)

Does look like its a bit of a lemon.

you "may" be able to get some improvement - First go to the following page www.google.co.nz FTechSupport%2FProductList.jsp%3Flang%3Den%26cc%3D us%26taskId%3D135%26prodTypeId%3D321957%26prodSeri esId%3D1842153&ei=imdMUJK1McqciQel_YDoAw&usg=AFQjCNEoz-ksO6FD-ydw27K7VFGiXOpEWA Locate your actual model ( MUST be the correct one). Look at the BIOS versions available for your model, there may be a fix or help for the problem ( look under Bios/ Revision History).

MAKE SURE if you flash the BIOS to a newer one you are 100% sure you have the right model, flashing the wrong BIOS can turn it into nothing more useful than a door stop.

Since its only got SP1 its several years out of date as well. Vista stopped at SP2, which had a lot of performance improvements as well as other patches.

1299841 2012-09-09 11:49:00 Just a word of advice you are far more likely to get useful help if you supply a decent subject description as after all this is a help site. mikebartnz (21)
1299842 2012-09-09 11:57:00 Poor design in the first place, dodgy hardware, crap brand, and its 4 years old.

At the very least the battery should be rendered useless, So if its going for any length of time unplugged then count yourself lucky.

Out of the box these laptops run like crap, boil your testies and need their own power station to keep them running.

I've got one myself.

I improved it by installed XP and putting in the maximum ram she can handle.

Its still not very good, but at least you can cook an egg on it, If I can find a single positive its that it hasn't yet died and prompted me to buy a faster, quieter, lighter, cooler more efficient laptop from a brand that has slight less suck factor then HP.

1299843 2012-09-09 21:59:00 Hmmm, my one (dv6303tx) has the earlier 7400 GPU runs OK since Vista SP1 (has SP2 ) but battery life is an issue with them.
The fault, if you read the article is with the design of the GPU, in this case 8400 and 8600 models, not the machine per se.
