1299706 2012-09-09 00:05:00 Hi, what would be the best way to connect my video player to my laptop to convert VHS tapes to say avi?
I have a magic box decoder and was wondering if I can connect the aerial out on the video to the aerial in and then send the signal via hdmi to the laptop.
I also looked at the Easy Cap converter but it gets mixed reviews. I have hdni and usb on the laptop and only RCA out on the video recorder. I would like to keep the quality of the videos as they are home movies of the kids growing up.
Thanks,
asdex.

That'll save the format as avi / whatever. Then you can burn it after. Dont think you need the aerial, if youre capturing from vcr to a computer. All you need are the cables and a program to capture the video and audio Speedy Gonzales (78)

You should get a composite to USB video capture device, as Speedy suggests.

1299709 2012-09-09 04:48:00 An alternative way to do it is too buy a DVD/HD recorder. Should be able too buy a cheap UHF one on Trademe. Connect the video recorder to the DVD/HD recorder copy the tape to the HD then burn to a DVD.
