| 1276296 | 2012-05-19 08:07:00 | Dateline Auckland, New Zealand. TV One opens its 6:00pm newscast Saturday May 19 with Shock Horror Leading News ... stormwater drains in Auckland are about to collapse. They've reached a 26 year point of their 30 year life. Three month old footage is resurrected (or regurgitated?) to underline the dangers involved, and footage is shown of the interior of a stormwater pipe. Although it could be a stormwater pipe anywhere, we're told it's a pipe in Auckland. We'll just have to take their word for it. Fortunately, it wasn't a sewer pipe.. Camera captures - in LIVE TV no less - Donna Marie standing breathless in the evening air, in front of the pseudo-phallic symbol of Auckland's sophistication, the Skytower, alerting us to the imminent catastrophes about to visit us. No matter the Skytower looks as though it was constructed of many concrete sewer pipes stacked end on end. In another part of the world, the first commercial rocket to dock with the ISS is close to liftoff. NASA TV gives us live coverage of the event, and all going well, will continue to do so for the rest of the voyage. In London, party zone is about to be unfurled. Not a party zone as we in Auckland once knew a much scaled down version, but a once in a lifetime celebration. Greece ponders whether it should go or whether it should stay. The US president advocates gay marriage (not for himself, you understand). The new France president settles into, well whatever they settle in to. And on a Saturday evening i9n Auckland, in Godzone, we settle into what? It's close to a countdown, but not as we know it (an Aussie supermarket). Sanity prevails, and pours a large single malt and settles back to enjoy the non OZ type countdown ... For those who feel left out, here's the NASA site if you don't already have it: NASA TV (www.nasa.gov) PS I empathise with those who suffered hardship as the result of some stormwater drains collapsing and flooding their properties and homes. This is not meant to mock or make fun of their misfortune. :) |

| 1276298 | 2012-05-19 09:11:00 | Walone, many thanks for the post , I keep up with NASA TV too. The really insignificant items we get on our current news channels do not compare with what the rest of the world knows. I am lucky, my son in law has worked with NASA over the past few years in software engineering and robotics and so I always keep up with (and sometimes ahead of) what is happening in the field of space advancements. | 1276299 | 2012-05-19 09:36:00 | Thanks WalOne for the reminder, 30 mins to launch :) I really hope it is a success for them. Sounds a bit strange hearing Falcon Launch Control when so used to hearing NASA Launch Control :) | Iantech (16386) | ||

| 1276303 | 2012-05-19 10:15:00 | Bugger ah, so close. computers detected to much pressure in one engine and shut it down. Have to admire the safety proceedures and at least there was no expensive loss of vehicle. | Iantech (16386) | ||
| 1276304 | 2012-05-19 10:17:00 | The initial launch shut down, and starting the relaunch sequence now. I think they just said Falcon 9 launch would be on Tuesday, but I'm not certain. And if anyone really wants to know, TV One has progressed from a Masterchef cooking class, to a UK dinner party cooking show ... Can we have a "barf" icon, please? |
