| 1276147 | 2012-05-18 08:20:00 | "Former prime ministers and their spouses are collecting tens of thousands of dollars in perks and a new bill being led by Prime Minister John Key will lock them in.Figures obtained by the Sunday Star-Times show former prime ministers such as Helen Clark and Jim Bolger collect near the national average wage each year in annuities, and pocketed annual increases of up to 4.75 per cent on their benefits. On top of annuities, eight former prime ministers or their spouses have also spent more than $330,000 of taxpayer money on travel over the past three years" From here www.stuff.co.nz Don't these people usually go on to be Directors on Boards, Consultants, Advisors, even have jobs in the UN - all of which attract lucrative salaries? I've got no problem with public servants having a decent retirement plan, but it should be just that.... only kick in when they retire i.e are no longer in paid employment. They're asking us to tighten our belts, but seem to be milking the system for all it's worth! Now, which party should I run for? Don't seem to have heard much about/from Labour since Phil G went..... |

If I read the article right I only have to do two years..... which on past performances means you're not actually expected to achieve anything ! :) |

| 1276151 | 2012-05-19 02:14:00 | Hmmm. Perhaps a good argument for euthanasia (for ex-MPs) after losing their electorate seat. Of course we would have to do away with list seats too, but that's a no-brainer (much like those who are selected for them) | johcar (6283) | ||

| 1276153 | 2012-05-19 03:19:00 | The first question you should ask a prospective politician is, do you tell the truth? If they say yes they're a liar, so shoot them. If they say no they're a devious liar, so shoot them, too. |
