1275747 2012-05-16 15:17:00 Watching this on TV right now - got me thinking about the fact that there are more tigers in captivity in the US than there are in the whole world, in the wild .

There have been some instances when tigers - and lions and even 'ligers' (hybrid lion-tiger interbreeds) have gotten loose and the local authorities have shot them all .

Just nasty .

I'm in favor of seeing these animals - but I've got mixed emotions about having them in cages like this . Since chances seeing them in the wild is kinda off the plate for me - this is the only way I can get close enough to appreciate them .

I also feel that once I've seen a big cat - then I should not need to see them again and again - especially in 'petting zoos' and other out-of-the-norm situations . Besides, up close, they smell pretty bad - especially the sea lions .

I often went to The Bronx Zoo in New York and also to The Wild Animal Safari in Irvine, California (long ago out of business) and of course: the iconic - San Diego Zoo . All well 'n good, but each time it left me a little dismayed and internally upset at the unnatural settings and situations for the poor animals .

Here's some sort of site that to me looks a little self-serving in that it says things are OK - and yet::: . prweb . com/releases/felineconservation/federation/prweb9411801 . htm" target="_blank">www . prweb . com

At least they're not selling tiger skin handbags and leopard hide shoes .

In other news: Marilyn Monroe (Scene/pose from: Seven Year Itch) goes to Palm Springs::

The giant statue of Marilyn Monroe that was in Chicago for about 10 months has a new home — Palm Springs, Calif .

“I love Marilyn . I’m so glad she’s here,” Linda George of Palm Springs said as she walked over to get a closer look Monday at the newly installed, 26-feet-tall “Forever Marilyn” sculpture of the Hollywood legend .

“I know my friends who live in Chicago have taken photos with her a bunch of times, and they thought she was a great attraction to the city . I’m sure she’ll be that for us, too .

Interesting that there are comments that the statue is tacky and in poor choice since one could (conceivably) look UP under her dress . Then there are comments that the 'other-sex' persons who frequent and live in 'Gender Non-Specific' Palm Springs and Cathedral City ("Cat City") won't bother looking 'under there' anyway .

This might not be the situation when the Dinah Shore Golf Tournament comes to town .

Yeah - it's a soft-news day .
