2012-05-16 12:28:00 | www.stuff.co.nz Bring it on! It's about time the fatties started paying for their healthcare. edit: and how about a separate room in establishments where they can shovel in their burgers out of site of the smug pricks with their salads ...

Have to say google ads are targeting the text well - god I hate google, damn ads plastered everywhere these days and damn near part of most installers - oh please install our toolbar with your installation - no bugger off. |

2012-05-16 20:08:00 | Fat tax would be fine to discourage unhealthy eating habits but at the same time healthy eating habits need to be encouraged. Why not make vegetables cheaper by taking away GST for instance. | Bobh (5192) | |
2012-05-16 21:08:00 | Burgers do not make you fat. Eating more (of anything) than your body needs makes you fat. So, what next? Alcohol tax, extreme sports tax. Anything else we should be penalised for? People who live in cities and breathe smog should pay more for healthcare than those who live in the country perhaps?

2012-05-16 21:42:00 | While we're at it let's tax the air we breath. Seems in this country some people want to tax everything we do. | paulw (1826) | |
2012-05-16 21:54:00 | I'm all for encouraging healthier eating & lifestyle, but putting more tax on certain types of food & drink isn't really the answer imo. As Bobh suggested, reduce taxes on the healthier options, and put some more assistance out there for new businesses who are trying to help the issue. Part of the problem, I think, is with so many people time-poor these days, the convenience of fast food & takeaways is too tempting, and most of the options for this are, it must be said, not exactly healthy - and the ones that are healthy, are bloody expensive! | inphinity (7274) | |
2012-05-16 21:58:00 | You could buy subsidised healthy food and produce junk food .... ie., that potato. Could cook more at home but some may be moving away from that ... But on that note, burger and chips is that a meal. Then maybe sushi and soup or soup and a muffin or a wrap and soup. Some of the stuff isn't that bad ... Fish and chips or burgers and chips these days might be approaching least $4 now ... or $6 with a drink.
