1275582	2012-05-15 23:19:00	I ain't getting into this fracas:::: • As Facebook prepares for what could be a record-setting IPO this week, a new poll finds that half of Americans think the world’s largest social network — which says it has more than 900 million users worldwide — is a fad . NOTE: ME TOO! The Associated Press-CNBC survey, conducted earlier this month in a phone poll of 1,004 U . S . adults, comes as many news articles in the run-up to Facebook’s initial public offering show strong interest in owning a piece of the Menlo Park company . High demand for its shares also prompted the company to say it will raise its opening stock price to $34 to $38 from its previous estimate of $28 to $35 a share . In one article by the Wall Street Journal, among those who were looking to buy shares were a student investment club whose members all use Facebook, and a father who wanted to use his daughter’s college money . There is no shortage of articles telling small investors how they can get in on the action, including by buying single shares — look, Ma, I got a certificate! — or shares in another fund . Besides the ravenous investor appetite for its shares, Facebook also has helped change business, politics and activism, among other things, as Peter Delevett of the Mercury News wrote over the weekend . Despite concerns about things such as its continued growth in this increasingly mobile world, and its sometimes-troubling privacy practices, the company is a “fad” that has gone on for eight years .
