"The Government has once again not listened to the education sector and instead been getting its education policy advice straight from Treasury,'' Mr Leckie said.
In the past listening to them has been the problem.

1275495 2012-05-18 01:04:00 Pretty sure my kids are more well educated at a higher level now days than I was at Ngatimoti School and Mot high. I aint knocking those two schools they were as good in NZ as you could ever get. Looking at some of the homework my kids bring home especially in Maths its looks like stuff Rutherford would have struggled with. But I didnt and I sure it was the same as my mates we just went to school so we could talk about guns, hunting, fishing, motorbikes cars tractors parties and rooting chicks. My kids so busy with homework they don't have much spare time for all the activities I used to do. prefect (6291)

I wasn't talking kids, was meaning those that leave high school without an education. Time I realized my post was wrong, I couldn't change it.

It is crap when kids finish their schooling without a firm understanding of the basics, But I would go back to what Billy said, The education sector can't fix the parents ****ups.

Ultimately the parents should be monitoring what the hell is going on and take steps to ensure they are reaching their targets, if the parents don't care then the children have to guide themselves, and without guidance they are mostly doomed.

I know what my 7 year old is doing at school because I sit in with him when he does his homework, read his reports, go over his school work, visit his school, meet his teacher, generally take an interest.
