1275988 2012-05-17 22:09:00 This video link is fresh (for the public). It was made just six weeks ago in the Atlantic, just off Newport News (Hampton Roads), Virginia.

These are the latest sea trials of the F-35B on the USS Wasp. They were very successful, with 74 VL's (Vertical Launch) and STO's (short take offs) in a three week period.

The media and the program critics had predicted that we would burn holes in the deck and wash sailors overboard.

Neither of which happened. You will notice a sailor standing on the bow of the ship as the jet rotates.

That was an intentional part of the sea trials.

No catapult... No hook.... It‚s a new world out there!

The shape and scope of warfare worldwide just changed.

Here. (www.youtube.com)

Don't know how old this video really is. Enjoy.

So what does this bird do that the Harrier doesn't/didn't??

1275990 2012-05-17 22:33:00 Will the Harrier doesn't do anything anymore as they are no longer flying.

1275997 2012-05-18 02:42:00 Great video, very impressive, but hardly original.

VTOL aircraft began in 1947 with the most famous being the Harrier jump jet, as Zippity has pointed out.

Have a look at en.wikipedia.org for information on many different types of VTOL aircraft over the years.
